Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of Delhi Capitals for the 2027 Indian Premier League season, marking his first IPL coaching role. He replaces Hemang Badani, who guided Delhi to a sixth-place finish in the 2026 season.

Ganguly, 54, has a long association with the Delhi franchise. He joined as an advisor in 2019 and later served as Director of Cricket during 2023-24. He also made his coaching debut last year with Delhi’s sister franchise, Pretoria Capitals, in South Africa’s SA20 competition.

The former India captain brings extensive leadership experience to a Delhi side still seeking its maiden IPL title. His appointment comes ahead of the 2027 season and the upcoming auction, giving him an opportunity to shape the team’s strategy and support staff.

Ganguly said Delhi Capitals is a franchise close to his heart and that he is looking forward to working with the squad and building a strong, fearless team.
