Xiaomi has unveiled the 18 Fold, positioning its new foldable smartphone as a strong competitor to Apple’s foldable iPhone. The device combines a slimmer, lighter design with a larger battery and high-end cameras.
The 18 Fold features a 5.4-inch cover display that opens into a 7.6-inch internal screen. At 219 grams, it is considerably lighter than Apple’s 254-gram foldable, while measuring 5.02mm when unfolded and 10.7mm when closed.
Xiaomi has equipped the phone with a 6,000mAh battery and 67W wired charging. Its camera system includes a 200-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom.
The phone starts at around $1,640, making it less expensive than Apple’s foldable. However, reviewers noted that Xiaomi’s software is less polished, with some apps showing layout issues on the folding display.
