Meta has unveiled a pocket-sized AI device called Muse Charm, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg shifts the company’s focus toward what he calls “personal superintelligence.”
The roughly 2-inch device gives users direct access to Meta’s Muse AI assistant without relying on a smartphone app. It features a customisable AI character and includes a built-in 5G modem, allowing it to connect to Muse without Wi-Fi, although it cannot make phone calls.
Meta says the device reflects its broader strategy of developing hardware built around AI. Zuckerberg also said Muse would soon be available across Meta’s smart-glasses lineup.
Analysts believe Muse Charm could appeal particularly to younger consumers, combining AI, personalisation and a nostalgic device design. However, questions remain over whether it can attract mainstream users.
Similar standalone AI gadgets have struggled in the market. Analysts have cautioned that Muse Charm may remain a niche product unless it offers functions that smartphones, smartwatches, earbuds or smart glasses cannot easily replace.
